What Is Ba Zi

Ba Zi, which translates as 'Eight Characters,' is the most sophisticated and comprehensive system within Chinese astrology. It constructs a detailed birth chart based on four pillars, each consisting of two characters: a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. Together, these eight characters form a cosmic blueprint that reveals a person's destiny, character, strengths, challenges, relationships, and life timing with remarkable precision. Year Pillar

The Year Pillar represents your social identity, ancestral heritage, and the broad karmic themes you share with everyone born in the same year. It consists of the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of your birth year, combining to produce one of the sixty possible Stem-Branch pairs in the sexagenary cycle. The Earthly Branch of the Year Pillar is your well-known animal sign (Rat, Ox, Tiger, and so on), while the Heavenly Stem adds an elemental dimension (Yang Wood, Yin Fire, and so on). The Year Pillar is most influential during childhood and in social situations where you interact with people outside your close circle.
